Artists Open House Brighton

Welcome to the Nature House

I will not be opening for 2026 Artists Open Houses – Brighton

This year I will not be opening our home for the Artists Open Houses festival. Our daughter’s GCSE exams fall across May and June, and I want to be fully present to support her during this important time. Hosting an Open House is a big and joyful commitment, and this year it feels right to keep things simpler at home.

However, I am delighted to be joining Emily Boo and friends at another house on the Fiveways Art Trail.

We will be open every weekend in May, Saturday and Sunday, 11am–5pm.
Address: 44 Florence Road, Brighton, BN1 6DJ

It was such a joy to meet so many people in person during the festival and to share my work face to face. One lovely visitor last year said, “I saw them on the website and I’m so glad I came to see them in real life – the photos just don’t do them justice.” I always do my best to capture the layers of painterly marks, delicate stitching, and quiet textures in photographs, but there is something special about experiencing the work up close.

Opening our home each year can feel a little surreal—welcoming visitors into our everyday space—but it is always worth it. The house has been filled with warmth, curiosity, and genuine appreciation: for the work, the stories behind it, and the atmosphere of the space itself. We have had so many memorable conversations with people who connect with the work and value supporting independent artists.

I hope to see you at the Emily Boo and friends house this year. It is a wonderful exhibition space, bringing together 19 artists showing a rich and varied collection of work.

The Nature House will return in 2027.

Sarah Rickard – Ceramics

A deep connection to nature inspires all of my work.  My belief that all life is interconnected and sacred is the motivation behind everything that I create.  Magic, mythology, folklore and spirituality also interest me and colour my work.  I love tales of beings part human, part animal finding them an interesting vehicle for my ideas regarding our relationship with nature and how we are connected to it.

She has exhibited widely within the UK and is represented in several galleries and shops. Her work is inspired by the very nature of the material she works with. It is hard but soft, strong but fragile. The intensity of colour and the way light plays with the material. She draws further inspiration from the beauty of the natural world, local gardens and the stunning Sussex landscape.

Carin profile

Scarlett Sky – Accessories

I chose to pursue a career in fashion design, fortunate to experience a diverse journey within the fashion and music industry as a stylist. However, life took an unexpected turn after the birth of my daughter, sparking a newfound interest in interior design. I delved into upholstery, mastering both modern and traditional techniques, and it was during this time that I first worked with leather – a material that instantly stole my heart.

The culmination of my accumulated skills and experiences converged, leading me to embark on a journey of designing handbags.

Since taking that leap of faith and despite plenty of initial challenges, I can happily declare that I have never looked back.
