Emma Harris – Natural Light Still-life Photographer

Emma is a fine art photographer, heavily influenced by the bounty of the seasons and the subtle changes in light that accompany each month.

Her still-life work captures quiet, ethereal scenes, and her background as a stylist, and passion for floristry is prevalent in her work.

Each scene is carefully composed to echo the time of year and then photographed using only natural light, which can sometimes involve days waiting for the perfect moment.

Emma tries to capture each scene so that minimal editing is required, believing that the colours found in nature are at their most beautiful when left as they are.

Each photograph is printed on fine art paper, Emma then carefully sources vintage and antique frames which are individually chosen to enhance her work.  The prints are professionally framed in these, using art glass for minimal reflection.

Lauren Hayes

Lauren Hayes is a self-taught paper artist living in Brighton. Lauren studied Fine Art and the University of Chichester and moved back to her hometown of Brighton after she graduated. Her work draws inspiration from the natural world, from botanical themes to the intricate forms of corals and sea life. Her work is mainly using paper and wire, occasionally experimenting with surface design with pigments. Her meticulously hand-cut paper pieces are assembled to create 3D sculptures and reliefs and are often displayed in glass domes or box frames. Lauren is drawn to the Victorian era; a period when there was a profound fascination with documenting and cataloguing natural specimens like sea urchins and beautiful corals.

Christian Funnell

Christian has worked in a public setting for thirty- five years designing and making gates, sculptures and outdoor furniture that endeavour to bring the user a sense of engagement with the unique qualities of a given place. I develop techniques in tandem with ideas, and ideas come from new construction techniques and objects that I buy from the scrap yard. These I incorporate with new materials to fulfil my vision or any given brief.

I am interested in pattern in the environment forming a backdrop for the subconscious to associate thoughts and feelings more freely; to make connections with the languages of the natural world.

Jazz The Alchemist

Jazz studied BA hons Designer Maker at The University of Brighton, graduating in 2016 where she specialised in glass. She has exhibited widely within the UK and is represented in several galleries and shops. Since graduation she has been teaching glass and has gained a reputation as a very patience and knowledgeable tutor.

Her work is inspired by the very nature of the material she works with. It is hard but soft, strong but fragile. The intensity of colour and the way light plays with the material. She draws further inspiration from the beauty of the natural world, local gardens and the stunning Sussex landscape.

Lau Moracchini

Lau is a passionate artisan in wood with an unwavering commitment to sustainability and a love for craftsmanship.

Driven by her passion for creativity, Lau breathes new life into reclaimed and sustainably sourced materials. She works with eco-friendly finishes and fire, and creates her own natural dyes that infuse each creation with colours inspired by nature.

Lau sees potential where others might see waste. With every piece, she invites you to embrace the beauty of imperfection and cherish the stories embedded within each piece.

Nina Newman Ceramics

Informed by her background in illustration and landscape photography, Nina’s hand-built ceramics reflect her love of wildlife and passion for nature. Pencil sketches of natural forms are transformed into unique, contemporary designs. Her beautifully timeless pieces, with echoes of 1960s ceramics, playfully utilise glazed and unglazed areas, and instinctive surface decoration, to create distinctive patterns and finishes. Colours are muted and tonal in earthy, natural shades celebrating nature–the sea, coastal landscape, gardens, countryside and native flora.

Pagette Jewellery

Artisan Gold and Sterling Silver Jewellery. Unique designs rich in texture and organic form. Pagette draws inspiration from the ocean and Sussex woodlands, creating nature inspired jewellery. In a society were so much is mass made, Pagette offers women a range of jewellery that is different and unique, and a chance for the wearer to express their individuality. All work is sterling silver or gold and hallmarked.  Prices range from £12 to £600.

Scarlett Sky

How it all began…

Growing up, I was captivated by the sight of my Mum skilfully making clothes for me and my sisters. Her exceptional sewing abilities transformed fabric into garments right before my eyes, leaving an indelible impression on me.

Unsurprisingly, I chose to pursue a career in fashion design, fortunate to experience a diverse journey within the fashion and music industry as a stylist. However, life took an unexpected turn after the birth of my daughter, sparking a newfound interest in interior design. I delved into upholstery, mastering both modern and traditional techniques, and it was during this time that I first worked with leather – a material that instantly stole my heart.

The culmination of my accumulated skills and experiences converged, leading me to embark on a journey of designing handbags. Initially, this passion was a mere hobby. However, like many others during the pandemic, I faced redundancy and soon began contemplating the idea of turning my passion into a small business.

Since taking that leap of faith and despite plenty of initial challenges, I can happily declare that I have never looked back.

Thank you for taking the time to read my story! x
